When is the last time you considered ways you could protect survivors of child abuse? Those who have been through the trauma of child abuse may have to tell and retell their version of events. This can re-traumatize someone, especially a child. Through recording, the story need only be told once, thus making the experience less painful for the survivor. Your child advocacy center can minimize the impact abuse on children by utilizing updated technology and equipment.
Childhood should be full of innocent playfulness. Unfortunately, many children have that opportunity taken away from them by someone who committed a crime against them. When a child is brave enough to tell his or her story, no one wants to make him or her relive the experience(s) more than absolutely necessary.
If you use video recording, the child’s statement is documented and not in note form. The use of questioning and the child’s subsequent responses are left without room for interpretation error. Also, you can take the statement into court and leave the child outside. With recording, perhaps some of the ideal childhood innocence can be saved or restored.
If you’re a Verified 501(c)(3) status organization, you may be eligible to win an iRecord system for one room in our Help End Child Abuse giveaway. Please read all contest rules carefully and there is no purchase necessary to participate in the contest. Register here!
